The winter of 2022-2023 was rather uneventful, with no cold spells, nor any rare bird reported. I made a birding trip to Sri Lanka between 27 January and 6 February 2023. During my trip nothing had happened in the Netherlands. However, already on 7 February 2023, the first new species for the Netherlands was found, a Buff-bellied Pipit Anthus rubescens at Puttershoek in the Hoekse Waard ZH.
The rest of the year didn't produce any new species for me. Best birds were a Green Warbler Phylloscopus nitidus on 7 July 2023 at Driewegen Zld, Blue-cheeked Bee-eater Merops persicus on 5 August 2023 at the Fochtelooërveen Fr and probably the best bird of the year, a Yellow-browed Bunting Emberiza chrysophrys (the third one for the Netherlands) discovered on 27 October 2023 on Vlieland Fr.
