The year 2026 was not bringing any new species as quickly as in 2025, though most interesting were a Song Sparrow Melospiza melodia on 12 April 2026 at the Haringvlietbrug Zld, and an Audouin's Gull Larus audouinii on 30 April 2026 at Breskens Zld. The Black-faced Bunting E spodocephala of Texel NH was last seen on 12 April 2026. A Slate-coloured Junco Junco hyemalis stayed at Schiedam ZH between 25 and 27 April 2026. Also in April was an elusive Sardinian Warbler Sylvia melanocephala at Usquert Gr between 18 and 22 April 2026. On 22 May 2026 a White-throated Bunting Zonotrichia albicollis was seen by a single observer at Scharendijke Zld.
Best birds in the summer were a Spotted Sandpiper Actitis macularia on 15 June 2026 at the Robbenjager, Texel NH, a Great Knot Calidris tenuirostris at Wevers Inlaag Zld on 21 juni 2026 and was relocated on Texel NH between 4 and 12 July 2026. A White-tailed Plover Vanellus leucurus was seen on 22 June 2026 in the Eendragtpolder near Zevenhuizen ZH. An Egyptian Vulture Neophron percnopterus passed by on 29 June 2026 at Bendersveld Dr.On 4 July 2026 a Red-necked Stint C. ruficollis was found at the Markerwadden Fl and another individual on 19 and 20 August 2026 at Terschelling Fr. A Saker Falcon Falco cherrug stayed in Belgium near the Dutch Border between 20 and 29 August 2026 and was seen in the Netherlands on 26 and 29 August 2026, but was only seen by a handfull of birders.
On 27 September 2026 the fifth Lanceolated Warbler Locustella lanceolata for the Netherlands was trapped at Meijendel ZH. On 30 September two White-throated Buntings Z. albicollis were found at the Maasvlakte ZH and were seen till the next day, 1 October 2026. Also on 30 September 2026 the 20th Great Shearwater Antenna gravis was found in the Nieuwe Waterweg in the harbour of Rotterdam and stayed till the next day, when it was twitched by c 500 birders. On 2 October it could not be relocated, however.
