Great Philippine Eagle
The Great Philippine Eagle or Monkey-eating Eagle Pithecophaga jefferyi is found on Luzon, Samar, Leyte and Mindanao. Currently the best place to see it is Mt Katanglad (or Mt Kitanglad) near Malaybalay in the Bukidnon Province on Mindanao, Philippines. This particular bird is the one-year old youngster, bred in 1998/1999. It was rather easy to see this spring (2000), because it was calling frequently. We saw it on the morning of February 12, 2000 for almost an hour at a distance of about 300 meters, between the Lower Eagle View Point and the Higher Eagle View Point.
