White-rumped Sandpiper - Calidris fuscicollis
While waiting for the ferry to Ameland (one of the Wadden Isles) at
Holwerd (Friesland) on Friday August 19th 1994 Christian Dietzen and
Sacha Rösner discovered an adult White-rumped Sandpiper
Calidris fuscicollis. Next day the bird was still present.
They warned a Dutch birder, but he thought it was not important
and warned others as late as Saturday evening (August 20th). Next day a few
birders were present and Roef Mulder found the bird around noon.
Then through the pager-system the whole country
was warned and till dusk everybody (including myself)
who could make the trip was able to see the bird. Next day it was gone.

This was the second record for the Netherlands. The first was juvenile/first-winter
bird at IJmuiden (Noord-Holland) from October 18th-24th 1977 (cf Dutch Birding 3: 115-117, 1981).
