Blyth's Reed Warbler - Acrocephalus dumetorum
On Thursday June 20th 1996 Jan-Erik Kikkert discovered a singing
male Blyth's Reed
Warbler Acrocephalus dumetorum
between Schin op Geul and Walem (Limburg) in the extreme south of
the Netherlands. But due to difficulties in recognising
the species and the probable difficulties
of gathering birding crowds, it was not until
Saturday June 22nd it became known nation wide.
The bird showed itself
very well and it sang loudly especially in the
early morning. The bird stayed till July 1st (cf Dutch
Birding 18: 154-156, 1996).

This was the second record for the Netherlands, the first being a bird trapped near Lelystad (Flevoland)
on June 26th 1990 (cf Dutch Birding 14: 121-126, 1992).
