British Storm Petrel - Hydrobates pelagicus

After a northwestern storm c 25 British Storm Petrels Hydrobates pelagicus were seen along the Dutch Coast between 21 and 24 September 1990. It started with several birds passing along Camperduin, IJmuiden and Scheveningen, but c 4 -14 birds were seen on 22 and 23 September at the end of the Zuidpier of IJmuiden. Some birds were seen flying by at very close range and for the first time many birders were able to study this species in the field, including myself on Saturday 22 September.
